What’s a Doula?
A doula is a non-clinical person who supports another person’s transition through a major life experience. Birth doulas are present at births to offer emotional and nervous system regulation techniques and methods of physical comfort. They create a space where birthing people feel supported to advocate for the standard of care they deserve. Birth doulas achieve this by facilitating conversations between main care providers and birthing people, offering knowledge so clients can make informed choices, and ultimately empowering birthing people to make decisions in the interest of their childs and their own physical and emotional well-being.

Kami’s Doula Journey
Kami began her formal birth doula training with Carriage House Birth (CHB) in May 2024, after feeling the call to work in birthing spaces when her artistic projects compelled her to investigate her relationship to birth. For Kami, birth work puts the phrase “caring for your community” under a magnifying glass. It does not fail to highlight the areas where care is not horizontally, equitably distributed. They are a birth doula who works against the systems of oppression that birthing spaces intersect with whenever possible. Their practice will always be grounded in providing anti-racist, queer and trans-affirming, cost-accessible care. Kami is in the privileged position to not need monetary compensation from their birth work, and aims to make herself a resource to those who’ve faced barriers that have prevented them from accessing birth support.
She aspires to be the person in the room who radically affirms your partnership or family structure, the language you use to refer to your body, the way you express love and care, and the way you desire to experience your birth. It is integral to Kami’s practice to utilize their trauma-informed background to compensate for the ways that it might be difficult for birthing people to feel regulated and empowered in their birth.

Interested in bringing me on board your birth team?
The best way to begin the process of working together is to schedule a 1 hour meet n’ greet with me! This space allows us to get to know each other a bit better, allows me to introduce my practice in more depth, and allows you to ask all the questions your heart desires before inviting someone to join your support team. Please use the scheduling system below to book your meet n’ greet. After we meet, if you feel excited to move forward with me as your Birth Doula, I will facilitate the process of formally committing to you as a client. This includes sending over a couple of documents for signing to ensure our time working together can be full of healing, support, and comfort.
